Book Review of Trinidad's Subtle Webs in Social Forces:
This is a remarkably clear-sighted and straightforward book demonstrating the importance of extra institutional influences on the success of school reform programs. As the author notes, “while policy research often highlights the effects and the implementation of policies, this book focuses on how they came about in the first place” (viii). I was convinced by the author that this is a major advance in the methodology of educational policy studies. It is often difficult to perceive the agents and contexts behind policy interventions but doing so is crucial for understanding and evaluating the success of such interventions.
